2009 Golf Tournament

RECORD AMOUNT RAISED FOR ANCASTER COMMUNITY SERVICES THROUGH “COMMUNITY LINKS” CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Ancaster, Ontario (June 23, 2009): Ancaster Community Services Community Links golf tournament raised over $19,500 to support local families and individuals in need, say tournament organizers.

Since Community Links was started 8 years ago, it has contributed over $110,000 to vital human services in our community, including Meals on Wheels, Assisted Volunteer Driving, counselling and referral and Youth Employment Services.

“This is a wonderful outcome for our community and we wish to sincerely thank all of our sponsors, golfers, prize donors and volunteers for contributing to a very worthwhile cause,“ said Don Jaffray, Chair of the ACS. “We had anticipated a difficult year for fundraising and while we’re not out of the woods yet, Community Links will certainly help Ancaster Community Services to cover some of the costs of meeting increased demand for our services brought on by the economic recession. That demand is being expressed in a number of different ways, including additional requests for food vouchers. We’re very grateful to our community for helping us to help those in need.

This year’s Community Links, played at Knollwood golf club on June 10, attracted 7 major sponsors including Meridian Credit Union, Horne LLP, Stephen J. Dunn-State Farm Insurance, Investors Group, TD Waterhouse Financial, S. Llewellyn & Associates and Ancaster Film Fest, 34 hole sponsors, 106 golfers and 25 silent auction items.

Community Links is Ancaster Community Services single most important fundraiser. Planning for next year’s event is now underway and will be held on Wednesday, June, 9^th, 2010.
