2006 Golf Tournament2006 ANCASTER COMMUNITY SERVICES GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES $15,000 Ancaster, Ontario (June 13, 2006):
Ancaster Community Services today announced that its 2006 annual Community Links charity golf tournament raised more than $15,000 in support of vital town programs such as Meals on Wheels, Let’s Do Lunch, volunteer assisted driving, youth employment and family outreach.
“This is an outstanding result that will make a major difference to the quality and quantity of services we can support and deliver in Ancaster over the next year,” said Warren Shannon, Chair of the Ancaster Community Services Golf Committee. “We had well over 100 golfers, as well as more than two dozen corporate and hole sponsors who combined to make this year’s Community Links at Knollwood our premier fundraising event. We sincerely thank all participants, including volunteers, who helped to make Community Links a highlight of Heritage Days.”
Since the first Community Links five years ago, the tournament has raised some $65,000 for Ancaster community programs that benefit those in need here in our community. Last year’s proceeds helped Ancaster Community Services and its 130 volunteers:
• serve over 2,000 Meals on Wheels • deliver gifts of food and clothing to 22 children and 10 local families at Christmas • distribute over 100 food vouchers • meet the information and referral needs of more than 5,000 people • make 880 trips to transport seniors and the physically challenged to medical and other appointments
“Community Links is about raising funds and awareness of the growing need for outreach in our community,” added Mr. Shannon. “Those who participated understand the vital link that must be strengthened and sustained if we are to preserve Ancaster’s heritage of caring for our neighbours.”
